Newtreat Pty Ltd has invented and patented a revolutionary greywater treatment system for houseboats and other vessels on inland waters.
The Newtreat treatment system is unique because it not only treats laundry and bathroom greywater – it also treats greywater generated in kitchens.
To date the Newtreat Greywater Treatment System is the only system that has met the South Australian Environment Protection Authority’s Onboard Greywater Treatment Discharge Standards for vessels travelling on South Australia’s inland waters.
Legislation prohibiting the discharge of greywater from houseboats and other vessels travelling on inland waters in South Australia is being progressively introduced (from 1st January, 2009.)
For the management of greywater, vessel operators are required to observe the following compliance dates:
- 1st January 2009 for all newly constructed vessels
- 1st January 2010 for existing commercial vessels in survey and those that are permanently occupied.
- 1st January 2011 for all other vessels.
The standard Newtreat ES* Treatment System (“Model HB 3”) has been designed for houseboats with 2 or 3 bathrooms (ensuites), 1 kitchen, 1 laundry with a maximum of 10 passengers .
A smaller Newtreat ES* Treatment System (“Model HB 2”) has been designed for vessels with a single (possibly two – depending upon design) bathroom (s) , 1 kitchen, 1 laundry with a maximum of 6 passengers.
A larger system, the Newtreat ES* Treatment System (“Model HB 4”) for vessels with up to 4 or 5 bathrooms (ensuites), 1 kitchen, laundry and a maximum of 12 passengers is in development stages.
In addition to the above models, Newtreat are developing a greywater treatment system for Riverboats, this will be the Newtreat ES* Treatment System (“Model RB 1”).
Testing of the Newtreat Treatment System is conducted by the Australian Water Quality Centre under National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and their Standards.
